Winners Take "ACTION"

SPF-SIG…..what is it?  Strategic Prevention Framework-State Incentive Grant: what does it mean?  It is a process (assessment, capacity, planning, implementing ,  and evaluating) that has been shown to effectively work at preventing and reducing substance abuse.

Assessment means looking at your community and knowing what resources you have, and what you still need in your community’s fight against substance abuse.

Capacity is looking at your county’s human, material, and funding resources

Planning means you create a project plan, how you are going to address the problem, and how well your strategy fits.

Implementation is the process of beginning the plan you created in the planning step.

Evaluation is the process of looking at what you did and figuring out if it made a difference.

The ACTION Coalition has completed all five steps in association with the state’s SPF-SIG process.  Below are links to the completed steps:

Step1 (Needs Assessment)

Step 2 (Capacity Assessment)

Step 3 (Strategic Plan)

Step 4 (Implementation Plan) pending

Step 5 (Evaluation Plan) pending

Another important part of this process is the logic model, which sums up what the Coalition thinks are important issues and what they want to do to work on those selected issues.

What is a Logic Model?

A Logic Model is used to show the connection between the problems facing the community                  and how the community intends to fix the problems.  The typical logic model consists of 5                  parts: the problem statement, the why, the why here, the intervention, and the measures.

Problem Statement: Simply states what issue we want to address

But Why: A general statement of why the problem is an issue

But Why Here: Specific ways the Why is seen is our community.

Interventions:  a seven layered approach to tackling the problem.

Measures:  this is how we are going to find out is what we are doing is affecting the problem

During the months of October-December 2006, our Coalition gathered together and started developing three different logic models.  Each logic model  addresses only one problem.  To date, we have one completed and formatted and the issue we are addressing is alcohol use among our youth.   Follow the link to view the logic model.
